Carmageddon is a making a comeback…as a Roguelite racer

Developer 34BigThings, best known for the Redout futuristic racer series, are bringing back the Carmageddon franchise in a new brutal Roguelite racer.

Those Roguelite features extend to permanent progression between runs, plus branching event maps that include shops, secrets, showdowns and dynamic challenges. Weapons can also be swapped on the fly, with the assortment including shotguns, missile racks, lasers and railguns to equip to fifteen different vehicle types.

A day-to-night cycle will be in place, with daytime races featuring fog and rain soaked tarmac, while night-time sees zombies – known the Wasted – swarm the streets. No dinosaurs, sadly.

80+ Perks are promised, which remain unlocked upon death.

“Carmageddon means explore, experiment, paint the streets red and crumple up opponents. We want our players to adapt, upgrade, and unleash destruction on zombie hordes with glee behind the wheel of a killing machine. Rogue Shift will hit with those who fondly remember the legendary series, and those who are discovering it for the first time – reignited, reinvented and more thrilling than ever,” said director Giuseppe Enrico Franchi.

Carmageddon: Rogue Shift doesn’t have a release date yet. We can however expect it on PS5, Xbox Series, Switch 2, Steam and GeForce NOW. The trailer below suggests we’re in for something dark, in both senses of the word.
