Considering we haven’t seen a great deal of new XBLA games this year – just seventeen games, if this Xbox.com page is to go by – we were surprised to see indie hit The Escapists appear on Xbox 360 earlier today. At the stroke of midnight, to be specific.
The price has been set at £14.99 (or £10.04 with Gold).
The PS4, Xbox One and PC versions of this top-down 2D prison break simulator gained good, but not quite glowing, review scores. Still, they were decent enough for Team 17 to grant it a physical release on all three formats.
The Metro described it as “a wonderful throwback to ’80s style British gaming†while GamesRadar called it a “brilliantly unique indie escape-’em-up that combines stealth, strategy, and simulation to great effectâ€. They did however warn that you’ll need saint-like patience to get the most out of it.
It was recently given The Walking Dead treatment too, but despite an appealing premise the stand-alone zombie spin-off didn’t go down too well with critics. Team 17’s site doesn’t even mention the existence of this Xbox 360 version of The Escapists, so your guess is as good as ours as to whether this is also last-gen bound.
