It’s a predictably quiet week for the Nintendo eShop, but the few new arrivals are worth considering and the week’s discounts aren’t to be sniffed at either.
The digital version of Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker is the headliner, arriving on Friday for £34.99. At the time of typing the retail version is £28 on Amazon but for those too lazy to leave the house Nintendo’s asking price may tempt.
Captain Toad is being joined by two Virtual Console releases for Wii U. Both are GBA titles – the 2005 turn-based RPG Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones and the anime-infused racer F-Zero: GP Legend.
GP Legend didn’t sell as well as Nintendo hoped, if we recall. When the GBA was on its deathbed new and sealed copies were very easy to come by. As for Fire Emblem, newcomers shouldn’t be worried about taking the plunge as the story is unconnected to other titles in the series. Both are arriving at £6.29 – the standard price for GBA re-releases.
No new games are heading to the 3DS eShop, but there are two themes. The ‘Slowpoke‘ and ‘NES Fire-Breathing Bowser’ themes are both due Thursday for £1.79.
As for discounts, Nintendo is bundling New Super Luigi U with New Super Mario Bros. U – the two can be had for £49.99. Monster Hunter 3 meanwhile drops to £24.99 on Wii U and £19.99 on 3DS. The delightful Shovel Knight also gets the chop on both formats, falling to £8.66. We’ve seen this 8-bit chic platformer on a handful of GOTY lists, should you need further convincing to buy it.
