2026 first new retail releases debut in this week’s UK top 40

This week’s UK retail chart, dated week ending 17th January, sees the first new arrival of 2026 – NiS America’s acclaimed RPG The Legend of Heroes: Trails Beyond the Horizon, debuting at #16.

It also charted at #6 in the PS5 top ten, but is absent from the Switch chart. It’s likely the remaining copies were sold on Switch 2, which still doesn’t have a dedicated chart yet.

The latest top 40 chart also sees a shuffle in the top ten. Mario Kart World has returned to no.1, while Animal Crossing: New Horizons has climbed to #2, up from #11, following the launch of the new Switch 2 Edition.

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 remains at #3, Pokémon Legends: Z-A rose to #4, and then at #5 it’s Call of Duty: Black Ops 7. Last week’s chart topper, EA Sports FC 26, fell to #6 – but stands a good chance of returning to no.1.

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe moved up to #7 (now having spent 456 weeks in the chart), Minecraft dropped to #8, Cyberpunk 2077 Ultimate Edition re-entered the top ten at #9 (up from #32), while GTA V rounds-off this week’s top ten.

The lower end of the chart, meanwhile, sees Resident Evil 7: Biohazard Gold Edition and Resident Evil 2 return at #39 and #40 respectively, presumably due to price drops. Everybody’s Golf Hot Shots managed to re-enter too, swinging in at #35.

In the single format charts, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is no.1 on Switch, Cyberpunk 2077 Ultimate Edition rules the roost on PC, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is the PS5’s no.1, Dark Souls Trilogy rises to no.1 on PS4, EA Sports FC 25 (note: not EA Sports FC 26) is no.1 on Xbox Series, while Hogwarts Legacy takes the top spot on Xbox One.

3DS chart fanatics rejoice, as six different 3DS titles were sold in the UK last week. Stella Glow is no.1, followed by Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King, Metroid: Samus Returns, Battleship, Devil Summoner: Soul Hackers, and Culdcept Revolt. And yes, that’s the Battleship movie tie-in from 2012. Extraordinary.
