The Switch 2 must be flying off (warehouse) shelves this festive period, as pack-in title Mario Kart World has returned to the UK all formats retail chart top spot. In doing so, EA Sports FC 26 has dropped to #2. EA’s sports sim only manages to claim no.1 in the Xbox Series chart this week, in fact, with Mario Kart 8 Deluxe taking no.1 on Switch, Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 on PS5, and Mortal Kombat 11 Ultimate making a surprise return to the top of the PS4 chart.
EA Sports FC 26 now sits at #2 in the all formats top 40. Pokémon Legends: Z-A rises to #3, Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 climbs to #4, and then at #5 it’s the return of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe – up from #12. Continuing the theme, Minecraft moves up to #6.
Ghost of Yotei rises a few positions too, now at #7. Donkey Kong Banaza re-enters the top ten at #8, #9 sees the return of LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga, and then at #10 it’s Super Mario Galaxy & Super Mario Galaxy 2.
While Nintendo controls the top ten with six games present, it isn’t all good news – Metroid Prime 4: Beyond has fallen to #15 during its second week on sale. The Switch version is also no longer in the Switch top twenty, outsold by such titles as Bluey: The Videogame last week. The Switch 2 version is obviously faring better for it to remain in the top twenty.
It’s worth noting that not everything is crystal clear within the charts at present – Kirby Air Riders is at #37 this week and was apparently at #12 last week. Upon checking the previous chart, however, it isn’t in the top 40 at all – and we even reported as such.
Getting back on track, the top 40 sees three new arrivals. Terminator 2D: NO FATE made its mark at #20, Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 on PS5 took #22 – also showing up in the PS5 top ten at #5 – while the Atari published Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection debuted at #23.
Yakuza 20th Anniversary Collection made an appearance too, but only in the PC chart, where it took #6.
Yooka Re-PlayLee seems likely to enter next week’s all important Christmas chart. The coveted Christmas no.1 spot is usually taken by either EA Sports FC (nee FIFA) or Call of Duty, but may face strong competition from Mario Kart World this year.
