Things are starting to quieten down as Christmas approaches, with just a few new releases of note out this week, including a handful of belated conversions for the Xbox, along with what appears to be the last retail releases of 2025.
From Limited Run comes a re-release of the 1999 PS1 2.5D platformer Tomba 2, set to launch on all formats – including the Switch 2. It’s now possible to save anywhere, rewind, and view an array of extras such as a gallery and merchandise photos.
ININ’s latest release is retro-tinged too, being the cumbersomely named Trouble Witches Final! Episode 01: Daughters of Amalgam. This colourful horizontal shoot’em up has been knocking around in various forms since 2007, now on PS4, Switch and PC with 16 years’ worth of updates and improvements. The product description boasts that it’ll satisfy genre veterans and casual players alike.
The rhythm-based rail riding shooter Aaero2 gains a new Black Razor Edition, featuring tracks from Arcade Paradise and the artist Lania Kea, plus the original Monstercat soundtrack. This also marks its PS5 debut. We awarded the Xbox Series version an 8/10 back in 2024.
On Xbox, there are belated releases of the Mars-set horror adventure Fort Solis, and Five Nights at Freddy’s: Secret of the Mimic – which entails tracking down a prototype animatronic – along with the retro (noughties) style co-op survival game Outbreak Shades of Horror. The Switch’s Zelda-inspired Mai: Child of Ages comes to both Xbox and PS4, meanwhile, offering around 20 hours of playtime.
Then there’s the roguelite auto-shooter Nordic Ashes, the outlandish looking tower defence game Humble Haunted House, the deck building Vambrace: Dungeon Monarch, and a retail release of the critically praised platformer Yooka Re-PlayLee on Switch 2.
We may have to resort to a mini round-up next week, with the only thing of note being an Xbox release of the Spanish horror Injection π23 Tabula Rasa and a ‘big’ mystery title from Arcade Archives to celebrate 500 retro re-releases. Our money is on Namco’s Alpine Surfer.
