R-Type III is gaining a full 3D remake as part of the Dimensions series

The dust hasn’t even settled on R-Type Delta: HD Boosted, and yet the next R-Type project has already been revealed.

R-Type Dimensions III is a menage et trois between ININ, Tozai and Irem and sees the retro horizontal shooter receive a new coat of polygon paint, going from 2D sprites to high end 3D graphics.

Publisher ININ claims it’s their biggest project to date: “Dimensions III is our most ambitious restoration and modernization project yet, created for long-time fans and newcomers discovering R-Type for the first time.”

It’ll feature local co-op, a new scoring system, customizable controls and 3D camera settings. Sounds effects and music can be switch from old to new at any time.

Coming to all modern formats and PC, pre-orders for R-Type Dimensions III went live today. The Special Edition includes an artbook and soundtrack CD, while the Collector’s Edition includes everything in the SE plus a collectible figurine and other bonus items. Look out for it in May.
