June may have only just begun – or at least, it certainly feels like it – and already some of the biggest games of the month are upon us.
From 2K Games comes The Quarry, a spiritual successor to Until Dawn developed by Supermassive Games. Unlike Until Dawn, however, this is a multiformat release. It’s a full-price horror adventure in which nine counsellors have an eventful final night of summer camp.
The Switch then gets Mario Strikers: Battle League Football from Canadian studio Next Level Games – creators of the 2005 Wii original, along with the more recent Luigi’s Mansion 3. Teamwork-based football is the order of the day, complete with power-ups that can instantly turn tables. That’s joined by a belated release of SEGA’s anime tie-in Demon Slayer.
Car combat/RPG hybrid Metal Max Xeno Reborn also comes to both Switch and PS4, promising a fully open world with no limits. SpellForce III Reforced is the week’s second RPG, coming from THQ Nordic and aiming to deliver accessible real-time strategy. The 2017 PC version gained ‘Mostly Positive’ reviews on Steam. If the controls work well with a joypad, it might be worth considering.
Other new releases include the sporting update Tour de France 2022, the wacky physics-based Pro Gymnast Simulator, ‘roguelike-like’ co-op management Spacelines from the Far Out, and the Lemmings-style puzzle platformer Nummels. Let’s go!
