Discounted hardware bundles fuel Black Friday sales, prompting FIFA 20’s return to no.1

1.3 million physical games were sold during Black Friday, GI.biz reports. This has led to the UK top 40 receiving significant shake-up, including a bunch of PSVR titles re-entering the top 20, the highest-charting of which being PlayStation VR Worlds at #14.

Such heavily discounted games like Marvel’s Spider-Man, Anthem, and Borderlands 3 were also propelled back into the top 40.

FIFA 20 was the UK’s best-selling game, however, thanks to discounts on the PS4 FIFA 20 console bundle. The sports sim is back at no.1 after dropping to #4 last week.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare at #2 also benefited from PS4 bundle sales, with sales up substantially. Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order at #3 likewise saw an increase thanks to Xbox One hardware bundling.

With prices as low as £99, the Xbox One S All-Digital proved popular during Black Friday too. This helped pack-in Sea of Thieves claim #4, while Minecraft: Xbox Edition took #5.

Minecraft: Switch Edition can also be found within the top ten, resting at #10.

The rest of the UK top ten comprises of Switch exclusives, with Pokémon Sword at #6, followed by Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Pokémon Shield, and Luigi’s Mansion 3 (respectively).

GI.biz reports Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield were the only two titles in the entire top 40 not to see a rise in week-on-week sales.

Shenmue III also lucked out, vanishing from the top 40 entirely during its second week on sale.
