Super Mario takes control of UK top five

In a surprise twist of events, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe has managed to claim the UK chart top spot.

Nintendo ran a ‘buy one get one half price’ deal on Switch software last week, giving some explanation as to how and why.

Super Mario Maker 2 also managed to hold onto #2 for a third week running. That’s followed by last week’s chart-topper Crash Team Racing – Nitro Fueled at #3.

All change at #4 – it’s the return of Mortal Kombat 11, up all the way from #40. A price cut to around £30 seems to be the reason, along with new DLC news.

At #5 it’s the return of Super Mario Odyssey, making it three Mario games in the top five alone.

Positions #6 through to #9 show some familiar faces – (in order) Minecraft, GTA V, Red Dead Redemption 2, and Tom Clancy’s The Division 2.

Then at #10 it’s a brand-new release – Konami’s Yu-Gi-Oh! Legacy of the Duelist: Link Evolution on Switch. Yes, Konami released a game last week.

As for re-entries, Splatoon 2 resurfaced at #27 while Team Sonic Racing parked up at #40.

Next week’s chart should be a tad more exciting, with Astral Chain, Control, Wreckfest, and The Dark Pictures – Man of Medan battling for the top spot.
