It’s another marvellous week for the UK Switch eShop

Considering how much their silver screened counterparts make, there’s a surprising lack of superhero video games. As such, MARVEL ULTIMATE ALLIANCE 3: The Black Order could very well become the next Switch million-seller. Potentially, at least – Nintendo seems unusually slow off the bat with advertising. Perhaps they’re hoping the license will sell itself.

No reviews are live yet, but early impressions are encouraging with word being that the combat system is deeper than Nintendo initially let on. If you’re a fan of the original two games it looks like you’re well catered for here.

Other notable new releases include a duo of shoot’em ups – Psyvariar Delta, which dates back to the space year 2000, and Moss’ Caladrius Blaze. The excellent Raiden V is planned for next week, too. On a related note, cult classic brawler THE NINJA WARRIORS is this week’s Arcade Archives re-release. It’s due a newfangled revamp, we hear.

As for games that have received the review treatment, gravity altering puzzler Etherborn is going down reasonably well. “Etherborn looks fantastic, sounds incredible and revolves around a brilliant game mechanic that initially feels like it’s going to lead to some clever puzzles but ramps things up far too quickly and engulfs you with frustratingly complex stages while you’re still trying to find your feet,” said Nintendo Life before dishing out a 7/10.

Both GameSpot and TheSixthAxis handed out 6/10s, meanwhile, concerned about the lack of replay value.

Then there’s the score-chasing vertical shooter Lost Orbit, which Nintendo World Report enjoyed. “Load times aside, it is a fantastic portable experience on Switch. Solid, ever-evolving gameplay and great presentation make this an easy pick up for anyone who likes high score games,” they said.

Video Chums has also been busy, covering Astro Bears Party – a rejig of the original Astro Bears, with new features for Switch – and the model train set puzzler Mini Trains. Both received 3/5. On Astro Bears: “It’s a simple and fun game that’s enjoyable in short bursts and makes a decent addition to anyone’s party game playlist.”

The full eShop line-up can be found below, with other highlights being the cruise ship management sim World Cruise Story, grisly top-down shooter Redeemer: Enhanced Edition, eccentric party game Penguin Wars, and the colourful puzzler Mochi Mochi Boy. There’s also a belated conversion of Distrust, a survival game paying homage to The Thing.
