Nintendo strikes back

Last week’s trio of big name releases – Evolve, Zelda: Majora’s Mask and Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate – are off to a monstrously good start.

It’s 2K’s Evolve that takes the top spot in the UK all-formats top 40. Chart-Track reports that the Xbox One version shifted the most copies, albeit by fewer than 400 units over the PS4 version.

The individual chart tells a slightly different story. Here it’s Zelda: Majora’s Mask on 3DS that has taken the top spot. For those currently scratching their head, this means that Majora’s Mask outsold the Xbox One and PS4 versions of Evolve. Or to iterate, it was the biggest selling single format title of the week.

What’s exceptionally noteworthy about this is that Evolve launched on Tuesday whereas Majora’s Mask received a standard Friday release.

The release of the New Nintendo 3DS and 3DS XL meanwhile gave a 57% boost to last week’s hardware sales.

Capcom’s Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate settles for #4 in the all-format chart, with Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare – last week’s chart topper – now at #3.

GTA V finishes off the UK’s top five.

There were no other new arrivals, or even re-entries, in the top 40.
