Rugby League Raw, Taxi Chaos 2, Factorio, Arcade Archives Space Invaders, Pritto Prisoner, and Carbuncle Pi hit the Switch

Christmas always sees a slew of shovelware on the Switch eShop, and this year is no exception. The situation is even worse than usual as there are some rather brazen imitations of popular games, such as CloverPit Gamble – a near identical clone of the excellent CloverPit. Also lined up are feeble copies of PowerWash Simulator, Goat Simulator, Megabonk, and Asphalt GT. What a swizz. Te gaming equivalent of finding a bootleg Ninja Turtle toy in your stocking.

Although the pickings are slim this week, it isn’t as if there isn’t anything to snack on. Factorio – based around building and maintaining automated factories – is about to hit the Switch 2. The PC version from 2020 has ‘overwhelmingly positive’ reviews on Steam, praised for its addictive nature. A map editor and a cooperative multiplayer mode feature.

Factorio

The Switch 2 (and original Switch) also gain Pritto Prisoner, a 4v2 asymmetrical party game entailing animal prisoners up against robotic guards, laying “peepee” and “poopie” traps to escape from a prison island. It’s also available on PC.

Then there’s Rugby League Raw from Australian publisher Tru Blu – whose lineage of rugby sims is traceable to the PlayStation 2 – the dungeon crawling inspired horror Caput Mortum, and puffies – a jigsaw style puzzler involving puffy stickers. Taxi Chaos 2 has made a surprise appearance too (only the PC version was scheduled for this week), looking more ambitious than the original.

Hamster has reached their 500th release milestone for the Arcade Archives series, which they’re celebrating with Space Invaders – a landmark title not just for arcades, but the gaming industry as a whole. Our prediction of a 3D Namco game, such as Alpine Ski or Alpine Surfer, was well off. Space Invaders Part II is set to follow next week.

horror Caput Mortum

This week’s EGGCONSOLE retro re-release may be of note too, being the 1991 MSX2 puzzler Carbuncle Pi. Yes, that’s the same Carbuncle who appears in Compile’s Puyo Puyo games.

Other releases to mull over with mulled wine include the four player detective party game Whoowasit, colourful kart racer Juiced Fruit Racing, the visual novel Nekomimi Days ~365 Days with You~ and the side-on viewed JDM Pixel Street Car Racing – which doesn’t appear connected to the JDM Japanese Drift Master series.
