2K Games are on a roll. Last week NBA 2K20 topped the UK chart, becoming the first-ever basketball game to do so. Borderlands 3 replaces it this week, outperforming previous 2019 biggest seller Days Gone to become the fastest-selling physical release of the year so far.
With FIFA 20 on the horizon, it may not hold that record for long. And if FIFA 20 doesn’t break 2019 records, chances are this year’s Call of Duty will.
GI.biz duly notes that BL3’s sales were down over BL2, which is no surprise – BL2 launched seven years ago. We’ve seen a huge, industry-shaking, shift to digital since.
Gear 5 makes an appearance at #2. This surprises us slightly as last week’s Gears 5 Deluxe Edition – with 4-day early access – failed to make the top 40, making it seem as if the majority of Xbox One owners had grabbed the anticipated exclusive via Game Pass. Still, well done MS.
At #2 it’s eFootball PES 2020. Konami must be pleased – sales were up 18.5% over last year’s iteration (thanks again, GI.biz). Either many were swayed by the recent demo, or football fans have finally had enough of EA’s dominance over the genre.
Incidentally, Ukie notes that it was a “close battle†between Gears 5 and PES.
NBA 2K20 fell to #4 during its second week on sale. Then at #5 it’s another new release – Focus’ reasonably well-received RPG Greedfall.
The top 40 saw two other new releases – the Switch exclusive mech shooter Daemon X Machina took #19, while EA’s NHL 20 skated in at #36.
The rest of the top ten features some familiar faces. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe dropped two places to #6, followed by Spyro Reignited Trilogy at #7, GTA V (#8), Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled (#9), and Super Mario Maker 2 at #10.
Recent top ten entries The Dark Pictures Anthology: Man of Medan, Wreckfest, and Astral Chain currently rest within the top 20. Control wasn’t as fortunate, falling from #14 to #27.
