NBA 2K20 bags UK chart top spot, becoming the first basketball sim to do so

Last week Astral Chain became Platinum Games’ first title to head straight to no.1. This week, NBA 2K20 becomes the first basketball sim to take the UK chart top spot. With the industry constantly shifting towards digital, we can foresee more unexpected no.1s in the months (years?) to come.

Spyro Reignited Trilogy resurfaced at #2, up from #19, thanks to the new Switch iteration.

Man of Medan holding onto #3 comes as a surprise too, especially seeing Astral Chain and Control have departed the top ten after just one week. They’re now at #11 and #14, respectively.

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Crash Team Racing take #4 and #5, the recently discounted Marvel’s Spider-Man sticks around at #6, Super Mario Maker 2 remains at #7, while FIFA 19 puts in a possible final top ten showing at #8.

At #9 it’s another new entry – Atlus’ PS4 puzzler Catherine: Full Body.

Then at #10 it’s THQ Nordic’s smash and crash racer Wreckfest, down from #2.

Monster Hunter World: Icebourne made its debut at #20, while the Batman Arkham Collection Steelbook Edition snuck in at #39. Arkham Knight being a PS Plus freebie this month presumably prevented it from charting higher.

There were no other new releases, meaning the physical release of Gears 5 Ultimate Edition didn’t get a look in. This just goes to show how incredibly popular Game Pass is. Perhaps the standard edition – due out tomorrow – will have a better shot at breaking the top 40.
