This week’s UK top 40 sees five new releases, with Super Mario Maker 2 leading the way.
The Switch exclusive had no trouble dislodging the multi-format Crash Team Racing, becoming Nintendo’s fastest selling game of 2019 so far.
Crash Team Racing fell to #2. At #3 it’s another new release – Codemasters’ F1 2019, which launched earlier than usual this year.
Despite the digital pre-order edition granting early access, SEGA’s Yakuza spin-off Judgment managed to make #4. That’s pretty good going.
Familiar faces occupy positions #5, #6 and #7 – Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, RDR2 and GTA V.
At #8 it’s a re-entry for Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, up from #34 thanks to a price cut.
The Switch release of Bloodstained helps the Castlevania alike break the top ten at #9 (the PS4/XO versions entered at #17 last week). GI.biz reports the Switch version’s week one sales were more than the Xbox One and PS4 versions combined.
At #10 it’s Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. Incidentally, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild missed out on a top ten placing by just 28 copies.
As for the remaining new releases, Lovecraftian detective thriller The Sinking City – which currently has a lukewarm 63% Metacritic – entered at a respectable #12, while Car Mechanic Simulator parked up at #23.
