E3 brings a bunch of surprises to the Switch eShop, including Collection of Mana

At the start of the week the UK Switch eShop line-up was looking slim with only the hardcore RTS Battle Worlds: Kronos and the purplish point ‘n clicker reboot Leisure Suit Larry – Wet Dreams Don’t Dry on the agenda. Then E3 and a new Nintendo Direct happened, and well, let’s just say it’s another busy week.

Square-Enix has dished out a double-whammy of surprises. THE LAST REMNANT Remastered is available now for a modest £15.99, boasting an updated game engine. The Xbox 360 original arrived to a lukewarm reception in 2008, although it appears it has achieved ‘cult’ status over the years.

The surprise launch of Collection of Mana has generated more of a buzz, bringing together the GameBoy’s Final Fantasy Adventure, the much-loved Secret of Mana, and the never-before-translated Trials of Mana. The ability to save anywhere and a jukebox are just two of the new features. It’s also getting a limited retail release, which perhaps explains why it’s £34.99.

In celebration of a brand-new Contra, Konami has ushered Contra Anniversary Collection out the door. No reviews are live just yet but given how well the recent Castlevania Collection turned out, it’s a safe purchase. Regional variations are coming post-launch too.

Then from Nintendo themselves there’s Cadence of Hyrule: Crypt of the NecroDancer Featuring The Legend of Zelda, which is less of a surprise – it was tipped to launch this month. A spin-off of the indie hit Crypt of the NecroDancer (which is down to £3.59 currently), it’s a 2D rhythmic action-adventure with 25 remixed classic Legend of Zelda tunes.

Stepping away from E3 surprises, there’s Verlet Swing, which Nintendo World Report rather liked. “Verlet Swing is one of the most outlandish games I’ve played in a long time. The presentation is simply delightful in a weird drug-induced kind of way, and seeing what was in store for me next was something that helped push through the frustration that cropped up,” they said.

As usual, you’ll find a list of new Switch eShop releases below. Check back next week when we’ll be getting geared up for Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled and increasing our potassium intake with My Friend Pedro.
