Lara Croft – slayer of Gods

For a second week running there’s lots of activity in the UK chart, with no less than three new entries in the top five alone.

Even with sales down by 72%, Tomb Raider has been able to fend off all newcomers – Square-Enix’s superb reboot remains at the top of the chart.

God of War: Ascension swings into #2, Starcraft II: Heart of the Swarm is in at #3, Sniper: Ghost Warrior 2 at #4 and at #5 it’s SimCity.

Those last two positions have surprised us – the first Sniper: Ghost Warrior was pretty poor and there were no reviews of this sequel online prior to the game’s release. That’s always a bad sign. We would also have thought that the negativity around SimCity’s launch would have impacted sales, but that’s not the case.

Chart-Track tells us that God of War: Ascension has only sold half of what God of War III did at launch, but it has managed to outperform God of War II’s debut week. In other words, it’s the second fastest selling game in the series so far.

Next week’s chart should also be an interesting one – this week sees the release of Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate, Gears of War: Judgment and Activision’s The Walking Dead: Survival Instinct.
