Sega working with Activision sounds like an odd pairing, but it’s one that has happened – virtual pet Wappy Dog was developed by Sega Toys and is being published by Activision on Nintendo DS this week. Using the DS software that’s included it’s possible to play mini-games and teach the plastic pup new tricks. £49.99 isn’t exactly bank breaking but we doubt that Wappy is anywhere near as sophisticated as Sony’s AIBO.
From puppies to pirates. Trading sim Port Royale 3: Pirates & Merchants is one that we’ve been curious about since hearing it was on its way to PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. After seeing the poor reviews the PC version received, however, we’re not too sure why Kalypso are bothering with a console release. Games like these are of niche appeal to begin with and if they aren’t up to much then they’re going to have even less appeal. German website Gaming XP claims that the multi-player mode has been removed and that the loading times are lengthy but the controls work well with the joypad.
There’s a video here on YouTube if you’re still curious.
The only other releases at retail this week are pretty minor – iCarly: Groovy Foodie! for DS, a PSP Essentials re-release of Naruto Shippuden: Kizuna Drive and a Xbox Classics re-release of Dragon Ball: Raging Blast 2.
This week’s XBLA games are Kung Fu Strike: The Warrior’s Rise for 800 MSP, Mark of the Ninja for 1200 MSP (out Friday) and Dogfight 1942 also for 1200 MSP. Going by the promotional videos, Kung Fu Strike looks a whole lot more exciting than Mark of the Ninja. The latter is being published by Microsoft though, so they must have seen some promise in it.
Then on PSN Zen Pinball 2 makes a belated appearance for PlayStation 3 and PS Vita. Launching alongside it is the Plants Vs Zombies table (also available on Xbox 360) which looks bloomin’ great.
There’s just two downloads of interest for Nintendo fans – Real Bout Fatal Fury Special for WiiWare, priced at 900 Points, and the ever-so-addictive Picross E for 3DS for £4.50. ’90s band The Shamen would approve.
Next week: NHL 13 (PS3, 360), Tekken Tag Tournament 2 (PS3, 360), Everyone Sing (PS3, 360, Wii), MUD FIM Motorcross World Championship (PS Vita) and Double Dragon NEON (XBLA).
