Samurai Shodown Sen and sensibility

Samurai Shodown Sen is a game that I’ve had my eye on for a while, slowly waiting for the price to drop. I nearly brought it when it dropped to £8 in HMV but my patience paid off – a couple of weeks ago it dropped to £5.

In a nutshell, it’s a borderline average game. Everything about it is adequate but nothing more. Well, there is one thing that makes it stand out – the incredibly botched translation.

I haven’t seen a game so riddled with Engrish for a long time. Have a look at some of the achievement descriptions:

  • To have Xbox LIVE fighting for once
  • To kill thousand of men
  • To provocate the opponent for 50 rounds

The announcer also yells “Conclusion!” at the end of each match. I’m not sure though if this is due to a bad translation or the developers trying to be different…
