The creed and the colour

As the ever clever Matt predicted, Super Mario Galaxy hasn’t had an easy first week. It enters at only #5 in the multiformat chart – and splitting multiformat games into their individual versions, it’s still only at #3.

Assassin’s Creed takes the top spot, the Xbox 360 version inevitably doing more of the donkey work than PlayStation 3. If you’re into pointless record keeping, it’s the second fastest selling new IP on a single format (The Getaway remains the holder of that particular meaningless title), and the third fastest selling Xbox 360 game (after Halo 3 and Call of Duty 4).

Sticking with records, Super Mario Galaxy becomes the fastest selling Wii game. Not surprising, but the chart position is a touch disappointing. There are lots of Wii owners, so why haven’t they all bought it? Idiots. It does start slowly though, doesn’t it?

The aforementioned Call of Duty 4, The Simpsons and Smackdown Vs Raw fill the gaps between the two big new entries.

Crysis at #14 and Deal or No Deal at #19 are both new to the chart, though the latter has been out for two weeks.

High School Musical: Sing It is among the week’s winners, up four to break into the top ten for the first time. Lego Star Wars: The Complete Saga also closes in on the top ten, up six to #11.
