Shut your beard

All hoofs are pointing to Jeff Minter’s Space Giraffe heading to Xbox Live Arcade this Wednesday. Just 400 (£3.80) Microsoft Points and a bag of wool to you, squire.

Early reviews suggest it’s going to be a love it or hate it thing, which isn’t a surprise seeing as that was the case with Minter’s own Tempest 2000. The Llamasoft team are keen to stress that Space Giraffe is more than a mere update of the Jaguar shooter though.

The Official US Xbox Magazine was less than impressed, giving it 2 out of 10. “Is this a failed game or a failed art experiment?” questioned the reviewer. Too visually noisy to figure out what going on seemed to be their biggest gripe. On the other hand, those who have been playing it over PartnerNet – the place Xbox Live Arcade titles appear for ‘special people’ to play before release – say it’s genuine ‘in the zone’ stuff.
