It was rumoured a few months ago that the next Star Wars Battlefront would be a single format exclusive. It was assumed by pretty much everybody that this format would be Xbox 360, given its huge online user base. We’re quite surprised to learn, then, that the format on the receiving end of Star Wars Battlefront: Renegade Squadron is none other than PSP.
Surprised, because we don’t know one single person that goes online with theirs. Perhaps it’s hoped that this is the game that’ll make people take the plunge. Even so, it’s an odd choice of format – 10 million copies of the last two Battlefronts were sold and it’s hard to see a PSP exclusive selling in such figures. A new hope indeed.
It’s being handled by UK chaps Rebellion, and has a story based around Han Solo and his band of merry scoundrels. There’s a wealth of familiar faces from the previous Battlefronts, plus new ones like Kit Fisto, IG-88 and Admiral Ackbar. You can also create your own hero or villain, choosing their race, uniform and skills as you see fit while up to 16 people can play online.
The new and old theme continues with levels and vehicles – you can expect to pilot the likes of Slave I, Obi-Wan’s Jedi Starfighter, Darth Vader’s TIE and the Millennium Falcon around Boz Pity, Ord Mantell, Kessel, Endor, Bespin and Hoth. Again.
