Simpsons games have a tendancy for being utterly rubbish or uninspired, so we’re not getting too excited over EA’s announcement of The Simpsons Game. On the plus side, the television show’s script writers are involved and it’s said to be heavy on authentic dialogue and animation. Though the actual game is split into sixteen episodes, each parodying other popular games – which could also mean it’s made up of sixteen piss-poor copycat games.
It’s perhaps fitting that it’s a mish-mash of game parodies, seeing as so many previous Simpsons games have been complete rip-offs of other games (Crazy Taxi, Tony Hawks, GTA). The assortment of games also brings back memories of the 16-bit Simpsons games, which were often a collection of shoddy mini-games.
Included in the parodies are GTA, Medal of Honor, Zelda, Batman, and Katamari Damacy among others. To make things a bit more interesting, the game is designed to be played cooperatively with two characters in each level. So there’s some hope for it being a fun multiplayer game.
Producer Scot Amos hilariously said “our goal in developing The Simpsons Game is to create the most original game ever”.
It’s intended for every modern games system you can mention, this autumn.
