The week in PlayStation 3

It’s hard not to enjoy watching the PlayStation 3 story develop, and there’s been plenty happening this week. Let’s play catch up.

1UP spoke to Phil Harrison. “We’re not going to slate our lineup,” he said. No, there’s no need to, everyone else is doing it for you. “We’ll continue to plow our own furrow,” he continued. Yes, that’s a good idea. It’s all been smashing so far, after all.

Sega Racing Studio’s Guy Wilday was a bit more plain talking to PSM3. He described the Sixaxis tilt control as “fundamentally… rubbish.” Good man.

Play.com got a healthy dose of coverage for its PlayStation 3 pre-order scheme, with the ever-reliable UKR particularly enjoying themselves. Play.com’s “head of the games” (that’s straight from the press release) Gian Luzio explained that they’d had “overwhelming” demand without any active marketing. So overwhelming that at the time of writing, their ludicrously expensive mandatory bundle has failed to exhaust their initial allocation.

And SCE UK commercial director Kevin Jowett left the company in the week. Not very interesting, but it amused me that one indie retailer told MCV that “some think this is a cover-up.” Elaborate PlayStation 3 conspiracy theories – more of them please!
