Assault Heroes

We like Xbox Live Arcade at the moment, as the last few additions have all been shiny and new, rather than updates of crusty old arcade games. Last week we had the 3D platform / puzzler RoboBlitz, this week overhead shooter Assault Heroes from Wanako Games. It would probably be best not to say their name aloud in public.

assaultn.jpgIt’s quite reminiscent of Return Fire on 3DO – or Mass Destruction on Sega Saturn, if you can remember that – only with an arcadey over-the-top vibe.

The demo is available now on Xbox Live Marketplace, and involves a battle on a long sandy beach, with your little man being dropped into the action inside an armoured vehicle. You can get out and walk at any time – in some cases, such as to collect power-ups, you’re forced to – but suffer a loss of decent firepower as a consequence. There’s good attention to detail, such as the ability to set trees alight, while the achievements seem nicely varied. What has us excited though is this: online co-op play.

Clocking in at 800 points, it’s a decent distraction. Download it and see, solider.
