UK Charts

Not only do we have a new #1 this week but a new #2 too. 2010 FIFA World Cup heads to the top of the top 40 chart, followed by Super Street Fighter IV at #2. God of War Collection makes its first chart appearance at #10. Monster Hunter Tri has fallen out of the top 10 already going from #5 to #12. Quick, Nintendo – put some more adverts on the TV.

Iron Man 2 at #20 is the next highest new entry. I was surprised to see that the supermarkets are selling it for £25 already. In fact, the DS version was only £15 at Tesco.

Avatar is on the rise up from #20 to #13. Believe it or not, it has been considered a flop even though it has been in the chart since being released late last year. Also, Mirror’s Edge is back at #25, presumably because Game were selling it for £3 delivered last week.

Yes, it’s a monster – Capcom’s Monster Hunter Tri has entered the chart at a respectable #5. This is very good news indeed considering that the future of western releases for the series pretty much depended on Tri’s success. Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell: Conviction is still #1 and Just Dance remains at #2.

Dead to Rights: Retribution is the only new entry at #22. Band Hero is on the rise due to stores flogging it off cheapy – it’s up from #29 to #14 – while as predicted last week Ubisoft’s Avatar game is back on the rise up from #26 to #20.

Square-Enix genre mixing Nier misses out on a top 40 showing but goes in at #18 in the PlayStation 3 chart and #17 in the Xbox 360 chart.

This Week’s Games

Not only has Capcom’s beast baiting epic Monster Hunter Tri scooped high scores across the board but there’s plenty of adverts for it on TV too. Hopefully this will be enough to get it into the top 10, or at least the top 20, in next week’s chart. If you’re thinking of getting it then you might like to know that there’s also a “Pro Pack” with a shiny black Classic Controller.

The canine-featuring Dead to Rights: Retribution hasn’t been reviewed by many places yet, which is never a good sign. EDGE gave it a 6, meaning it’s probably worth a 7 at least.

Square-Enix’s action RPG Nier is the only other game out this week. Eurogamer thought it threw too many ideas together for its own good, but said it was still hard to dislike.

Next week: 2010 FIFA World Cup, Iron Man 2, No More Heroes 2: Desperate Struggle, Super Street Fighter IV, R.U.S.E, The God of War Collection and Two Worlds II.
