If this week’s UK chart was a tower then Nintendo’s Pandora’s Tower would still be on the doorstep – it makes its chart appearance at a very poor #38. This is a slight surprise – even GAME are stocking this one and reviews have been pretty good. Maybe Wii owners are still busy with The Last Story?

It’s good news for Kid Icarus though. Well, mildly good news – the winged wonder has moved up two places. Going from #39 to #37 perhaps isn’t something to be too excited about, however.

FIFA Street is the UK’s number one once again with Mass Effect 3 at #2 and FIFA 12 at #3. Kinect Star Wars – last week’s number one – is now at #4.

During its second week of release Rhythm Thief and The Emperor’s Treasure has managed to make an appearance. Not in the top 40, sadly, but at #9 in the 3DS chart.

The only other new entry we can see is Secrets of the Titanic in the DS chart, which was presumably released to tie-in with the 100th anniversary of the legendary ship. Ban this sick filth, etc.

Last week Resident Evil: Revelations made the news as eagle-eyed gamers spotted a host of ‘typos’ not only on the box but also during the cut-scenes.

This week it’s making news again – it’s at #6 in this week’s UK chart, making it the first new release of 2012 to make the top 10.

FIFA 12 holds its position at #1 for the fifth week running. It still has a long way to go to beat FIFA Road to the World Cup 98 though which managed 11 weeks in a row at #1. FIFA 12 has however already made more money than any other sports game before it.

There isn’t much else going on in the charts (it is January, after all) but we do spot Tales of Abyss making it into the 3DS chart at #9. After selling for crazy money on eBay (£50+) Namco has confirmed that new stocks are making their way into stores. Amazon and Play are both due a new supply this week according to Namco’s twitter feed.

Last week wasn’t a great one for UK videogame sales. FIFA 12 holds onto the top of the chart for a fourth week running even though sales were down 54% from last week.

Just Dance 3 climbs to #2 with The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, Battlefield 3 and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 finishing off the top 5.

Fitness games are certainly in demand at the moment – Zumba Fitness and Zumba Fitness 2 are at #6 and #7 while Ubisoft’s Your Shape: Fitness Evolved makes a chart appearance at #12. It was first released way back in November.

There isn’t much going on elsewhere in chart land, expect for in the PlayStation 2 chart which this week contains no less than three different FIFA games. Last week Sensible Soccer 2006 of all things was riding high.

There isn’t much going on in the top five positions of the UK chartFIFA 12 holds onto the top spot, followed by Battlefield 3, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, Just Dance 3 and Skyrim – but the bottom half of the top 10 has seen a bit of action. Zumba Fitness hurdles back up from #19 to #6 while RAGE has re-entered the top 10, up from #12 to #9.

Zumba Fitness 2 is back on the rise as well, grooving up from #28 to #12. We assume this means that 505 Games are still manufacturing copies of the original even though the sequel has been out for quite a while.

There isn’t a great deal else going on apart from Wii Fit Plus re-entering at #27 and TinTin: The Secret of the Unicorn at #36. The latter is available for £12.85 online at the moment.

Nintendo’s Boom Street still eludes the top 40 but it’s in at #20 in the Wii chart.

If you’re thinking that Nintendo’s decision to release Boom Street on Wii on 28th December was a strange one, then you’d be right. Most gamers are still playing the games they received for Christmas while retailers are focused on promoting their sales rather than shifting new releases.

As such, Boom Street not only fails to make the UK top 40 but also the Wii top 40.

Elsewhere in the chart it’s business as usual. FIFA 12 holds onto the top spot for a second week running, followed by Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, Battlefield 3, Just Dance 3 and Assassin’s Creed: Revelations.

As predicted last week, the sales have had an impact on the charts. RAGE is the game that has benifited from a price drop the most – it’s back in at #12, up from #29. £9.98 at GAME, if you’re wondering.

WWE ’12 has shot back up the chart too, up from #23 to #13. Spare a thought for EA’s Star Wars: The Old Republic though – it has been forced down from #10 to #38 this week.

UK retailers have some incredible discounts at the moment – GAME has been selling Xenoblade: Chronicles and RAGE for £9.98 while yesterday Morrisons reduced half a dozen 3DS games to £7 a pop.

We’ll have to wait until next week though to see how the sales have affected the UK chart, as this week’s UK top 40 only takes us up to 24th December.

There’s a bit of a shake around in the top ten. Most significantly, FIFA 12 is back on top while the Christmas number one – The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim – now resides at #8. There’s a new entry at #10 too – EA’s new hope Star Wars: The Old Republic.

Rayman Origins is doing much better now that the price has been cut to around £20 – it’s now at #19, up from #25. Pre-Christmas price cuts for Sonic Generations have also helped Sega’s platformer with the blue blur dashing up from #19 to #15.

We’ll also be interested to see how Nintendo’s Boom Street on Wii does next week, as Nintendo rather curiously pulled the release date forward from early January to the end of December. Early reviews haven’t been too bad including a 7 from gamesTM.

Even with sales down 54% from last week, Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception can’t knock Battlefield 3 off the top of the chart. Drake has to do with #2.

Battlefield 3 is now the first Battlefield to stay at the top of the chart for two weeks in a row – Battlefield: Bad Company 2 only managed to stay at #1 for one week. Will it make it for a third week? It’s incredibly unlikely seeing a certain game is out tomorrow.

At #3 there’s FIFA 12, Batman: Arkham City at #4 and Just Dance 3 at #5.

Sega’s blue blur manages to make the top 10 – Sonic Generations goes in at #10. The next highest new entry is GoldenEye: Reloaded at #16.

In its second week of release Disney Universe makes an appearance at #25 and then at #40 we see The Gunstringer finally show up. No doubt it has been discounted heavily somewhere.

Dondonpachi: Resurrection doesn’t make top 40, as you’d expect, but it hasn’t done well in the 360 chart either – it’s at #38.

Disgaea 4: A Promise Forgotten hasn’t done too badly though, making its entry at #20 in the PlayStation 3 chart. And even with middling reviews, Go Vacation on Wii has done alright too in at #16 in the Wii chart.

Nobody else stood a chance, did they? EA’s Battlefield 3 marches to the top of the chart, with the Xbox 360 version proving to be the most popular of all. Chart-Track tells us that day one sales are higher than the day one sales for the previous 17 Battlefield games combined. 17!

Batman: Arkham City drops to #2, FIFA 12 at #3, Football Manger 2012 at #4 and Just Dance 3 at #5. Activision’s purple dragon makes an appearance in the top 10 – Skylanders: Spyro’s Adventure is up from #11 to #9.

Kinect Sports: Season Two is the next highest new entry after Battlefield 3. It’s in at #18. That’s followed by Dragon Ball Z: Ultimate Tenkaichi at #23. With the movie now out, and apparently pretty good, TinTin: The Secret of the Unicorn has managed to make an appearance at #35.

A few games have seen significant drops this week. Dark Souls is close to leaving the chart already, down from #18 to #40. For such a ‘hardcore’ game though it has had a bloody good run. Dead Rising 2: Off the Record falls from #20 to #36 while the two week old Ratchet & Clank: All 4 One drops from #24 to #37.

Disney Universe fails to make the top #40 but it does quite well in the Wii chart arriving at #10. PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 owners haven’t taken to it in quite the same way, arriving at #28 and #34.

Lastly, there’s a bit of action going on in the PSP chart with four new entries. Football Manager 2012 and Pro Evolution Soccer 12 make #1 and #3 respectively while at #6 and #9 there are two RPGs that Ghostlight have slipped out – Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 2 IS CE and The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky. With presumably low print runs, these two will no doubt be very hard to find in future.
