“Super Spastic”A game has been pulled from shelves for calling players a “Spastic” and a “Super Spastic”.

As the BBC reported earlier today, MindQuiz, a shitty Brain Training rip off from Ubisoft, has been pulled from shelves after a Belfast woman complained.

Ubisoft blamed it on a mis-translation from the Japanese, which sounds dubious at best, to be honest. What where they using? Babelfish?

Christ on a moped – it’s a right old busy week for new releases. The Darkness, Harry Potter and the Girl with the Visible Bra Strap, Overlord, Resident Evil 4 and Driver: Parallel Lines on Wii, Hour of Victory, Puzzle League and More Brain Training from Dr. Kawashima are just the highlights, with some belated PSP conversions and rubbish Japanese 360 games making up the rest. What’s the betting that in a few weeks there will be absolutely nothing out? Publishers are idiots.

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix is likely to chart the highest, and going by early reviews it isn’t too bad, offering plenty of freedom and the chance to use the Wii remote as a magic wand. We’ve played a bit of the WWII-based Hour of Victory and Overlord and can say they’re worth a look. The latter borrows a lot of ideas from Pikmin and Dungeon Keeper while the former is a solid shooter although short on innovation. A lot of people have been waiting patiently for The Darkness, from Chronicles of Riddick creators Starbreeze, and it looks like the wait has been worth it.

It’s a purse pleasing week for Wii owners, with Resident Evil 4, G1 Jockey Wii and Rise of the Silver Surfer all available for less than £30 each. We know which one we’d go for. As per usual for the Driver series, Parallel Lines has slipped out without review copies being sent to press. The PlayStation 2 and Xbox versions were alright, so unless Ubisoft have messed up the controls or removed half the game then it should be a decent enough addition to the Wii’s gaming library. PlayStation 2 owners on a budget should check out Global Defence Force which we swear on our lives is finally out today.

And Call of Juarez? A first person shooter with cowboys, apparently. Eurogamer quite liked it.

There’s a new trailer for Grand Theft Auto IV. You can see it below. It’s an improvement on the first trailer, but it doesn’t really reveal an awful lot. However, there looks to be some kind of system for hanging onto vehicles as they’re in motion, which could be useful. Worryingly though, the series’ trademark humour seems mostly absent (opting for a grittier and more realistic style). Which is a shame.

Famitsu has awarded Chibi-Robo: Park Patrol on DS a rather handsome 31/40, which is good news – oh yes! – as the GameCube mini-robo romp was just about the loveliest thing ever.

Chibi-RoboThe recently updated Japanese website features a list of the new characters that Chibi will encounter on his mission to spread love and happiness, which include a duo of snowboarding penguins and some scary looking goth chaps with black eyeliner. The yolk folk appear to be the old characters making a comeback. Elsewhere on the site there’s a brief glimpse of how the touch screen will be used to make Chibi dance and spray water.

It’s due out in Japan on 5th July, meaning we’ll probably see it around Christmas, or knowing Nintendo Europe, Easter 2008.

Rumours are circulating that GTA IV might be pushed back a few weeks from its 19th October release date to give time for sales of Halo 3 – due 26th September – to simmer and also so that it falls into Take-Two’s 2008 fiscal year. Obviously it’s all bollocks – GTA IV’s release date was announced months before even the first screenshots were released.

GTA IV SESo forget all that, and look at this – the GTA IV Special Edition, which includes a soundtrack CD, art book, keychain, duffel bag and lockbox and comes in both PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 flavours. It’s expected to cost $89.99 in the US – $30 more than the standard version.

ShopTo have £44.99 as the RRP for the UK release, although this might just be a pricing error. Best pre-order it now, then

Despite a good attempt – going from #8 to #2 – Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer hasn’t been able to slide Forza 2 off the top spot. The PlayStation 2 version of Fantastic Four can be found on the high street for as little as £17.99, so well done Forza.

Shrek the Third and Flatout: Ultimate Carnage are the biggest new entries, going in at #13 and #14. Expect Shrek to enter the top 10 once the movie reaches cinemas, but obviously it won’t deserve to be there. Lower down in the chart Armoured Core 4 – from budget publisher 505 Games, no less – is in at #39 and Mortal Kombat: Armageddon at one place lower. Midway can’t be happy about that – they’ve been pushing the Wii version surprisingly heavily.

We wouldn’t be shocked to see Lumines on PSP back in the chart next week – sales have gone through the roof (see here on Amazon) after naughty people have found a way to use it to downgrade the PSP’s firmware.

Metroid Prime Pinball for Nintendo DS? Armored Core 4 for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360? No, there’s nothing new this week for me to even pretend to be enthusiastic about – though Metroid Prime Pinball has been received well.

There’s FlatOut: Ultimate Carnage for 360, but it’s always been a slightly disappointing series given its promise. Shrek the Third? Mega Man ZX? Oh please.

What’s Kirby Mouse Attack for DS? The European name for Kirby Squeak Squad, which looks kind of fun and is apparently sort of quite good.

When I was younger I used to love Games Workshop, and I spent many an afternoon pushing the models around in the in-store battles and buying the ridiculously expensive books. Indeed, whenever I smell the heady smell of paint and sweat, I’m reminded of being a massive social outcast and thinking Marilyn Manson was good. Ah, the good ol’ days.

But now you can have all the fun of disaffection and nerdiness without having to leave the house and expose yourself to the hypocritical laughter of cunts, as THQ are publishing Warhammer 40,000: Squad Command on the PSP. It’s a turn based affair – which is a sensible move as that’s basically what the table top game is – that focuses on single player missions and stories, although nine multiplayer maps will be available to play locally or over the internet, with up to eight players supported. If they can keep the online play simple and quick enough, it could well be brilliant.

The only reservation I have is that you play as Ultramarines facing the Choas Marines. Ultramarines are rubbish. Give me Blood Angels any day.

News of a Sonic RPG – currently untitled – for Nintendo DS should send a cold shiver down your spine. Sonic is fast, and that’s about his only notable characteristic. So suited to an RPG he is not. There’s a but.

But! There is was. BioWare – who we knew from an announcement back in September are working on a DS title – are doing the development. And they know their RPG onions – Knight of the Old Republic and all that.

So what to make of all this? Let’s consult BioWare CEO Ray Muzyka: “As huge fans of Sonic ourselves, we’re committed to delivering a truly amazing story-driven experience within the Sonic universe, focusing on capturing the character’s broad appeal and placing him in a completely original adventure.” Okay Ray, you have the benefit of the doubt for now.

The third quarter of this year will see literally some games released for the Wii and Nintendo DS. And by my reckoning, about one of interest for each format.

Those are Super Paper Mario for Wii, on 14th September, and Freshly Picked – Tingle’s Rosy Rupeeland for Nintendo DS, on the same day. Honestly, I want to be mildly interested in more than two games. Have a look at the full list and tell me what I’m missing. Please.

Dynasty Warriors and Samurai Warriors are coming together in the form of Warriors Orochi. This is, say Koei, “an unforgettable crossover event.”

The question is: will anyone notice the difference? Has anyone ever found any real differences between the two series? I guess there must be differences that I’m too stupid to pick up on, so go on, put me right.

Texans MumboJumbo are working on a game based on The Office. But the US version of the series, so it won’t feature Ricky Gervais doing that dance that no-one’s sick and tired of seeing. In much the same way as no-one’s sick and tired of being hit around the head with a rotting corpse.

It’ll be a “mass-market” game, available for PC, PSP and Nintendo DS, so who thinks it’ll be full of rubbish mini-games? I do. Of course, it’s not terribly likely to make it to these shores, so we can just get on with our lives.
